Worried About Stretch Marks? Have No Fear... Belly Butter is Here!
Updated: Feb 26, 2019
Let's chat about growing baby bump and our skin for a second...
When I was pregnant with Wes and my belly first popped a sudden fear of “oh no am I going to get stretch marks” hit me like a hurricane. Some woman look at stretch marks as “Mommy Warrior Marks” and some, like me, are terrified by them. On top of my fear for these warrior marks, my belly was SOOO itchy! I knew I had to find something to relieve my itchy symptoms and try and prevent stretch marks so I began rubbing coconut oil all over my belly every night and with a little luck and a lot of oil… I didn’t get any! Everyone's body is different and it doesn't always work for everyone.
What happens to our skin as our bodies grow these little human inside?
As our bodies grow, the connecting fibers in the middle layer of our skin (dermis) slowly stretch to accommodate our slowly growing belly. However, when there is rapid growth, the dermis is stretched beyond the limits of its elasticity and causes tears allowing deep layers of skin to show through creating stretch marks.
Our skin is the largest organ in our body and it absorbs what we put on it. This is why it is so important to know what is in the products we are putting not only IN our bodies but ON our bodies.
Lots of oils and butters are high in vitamins A, C and E, are loaded with antioxidants, help keep skin moisturized, can reduce scaring and promote healing. Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial and antifungal! So fascinating!
When we rub our bellies during pregnancy we are beginning the bonding experience with our baby. As your baby grows he/she will begin to respond to you and partner's touch. It truly is a remarkable thing to experience.
